Designer Dog Scams

On social networking sites all across the internet you see people go all googoo gaga when it comes to pictures of animals.  This fascination particularly manifests itself when it comes to designer dogs.  I can't tell you how many times I have seen grown women squeal like a school girl on prom night when they come the latest, most trendiest breed of designer dog.

One of these trendy fads is the pomsky.  The pomsky is a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky.

Great..they look adorable. Fantastic.  But...they are expensive.  Pomsky Headquarters says you are looking at around $3,000 to buy a pomsky puppy! The scary part is that you almost have to take a breeders word for it when they hand you over a pomsky puppy.  Look at this cautionary tale found in the comments section where the blogger reveals how he was swindled out of several thousand dollars.

I got the Wisdom Panel DNA test, and just got the results. It turns out that they are a cross between Pomeranian and Alaskan Malamute (often confused for a husky), which explains their larger size. They weigh about 25 lbs (24 and 27 to be exact), and have stayed the same weight pretty much for the last month and a half. The vet said they shouldn’t get any bigger. If I can get them to stay still long enough, I will post some updated pictures.

That totally sucks!  So, I looked up the phrase pomsky scams and learned about a website that serves as a safeguard of the Pomsky.  Pomsky Scams is putting together a series of exposes about pomsky puppy scams. It is pretty fascinating reading.

Their articles take a look at various websites that are put together by people with no actual knowledge about pomskies.  And they also get into the nitty-gritty when it comes to exposing fraudulent breeders.

Pomsky Headquarters has a directory of pomsky breeders where you can find a list of pomsky puppies for sale and Pomsky Club of America also has their "preferred breeder" list.  These are good places to start, if you are interested in throwing your money down the drain on a designer dog that costs more than a purebred.
